Why I started using “mikesonfire” for a username

Most people assume that “mikesonfire” is just a username that I picked because it sounded cool. Since you’re at this page, you get to hear the real story.

Three years ago on my birthday my family spent a fun afternoon boating and swimming on the beautiful St. Croix River. Afterwards, we all came home and I grilled steaks.  After dinner, while my wife was putting the candles on my birthday cake, I went out to start a fire in our bonfire pit so the kids could roast some marshmallows.  The wood was wet so I poured some gasoline on it and poured a small line of gasoline from the pit to about 15 feet away. I put the gasoline can away and lit the end of the line. As the main fire ignited it exploded right down that small line. It set me on fire and blew me off my feet.

Go ahead and say it… what a knucklehead!

I was taken to Regions, a major burn hospital in our area, and spent the next month in their intensive care unit.

It was not a pleasant experience. The ICU at a major burn hospital is a place you definitely want to avoid. I thought I was pretty good at handling pain…  I guess I never really knew what pain WAS, until then.

I”ll always have some burn issues to deal with but since the accident I  have realized that a lot of good came out of that very bad experience.

  • I got to experience,  firsthand, the total support of my family.
  • I found out how many friends I had that really cared for me.
  • I got to reflect on my life and how precious the time was that I had left.

I spent a lot of time “laid up”. Much of this time was spent on the internet. I have always loved computers and the internet – as a user. Since I was unable to walk (I’m good now), I began to learn how to use it for more than entertainment. I decided to try and monetize my time online.

In my offline businesses (real estate and lending) I have been fortunate to be able to earn a good income by helping people get what they want.  I know this way of thinking works because it has worked very well for me. I realized that the internet was made for this belief.  I’ve found that it’s not that hard to make money online. The problem is finding a system that works for you and sticking to it until it starts to pay off. A little success is all you need to really get hooked. Who can complain about going to work in your underwear?

Internet marketing is a great place for nearly anyone to earn anywhere from a few extra hundred bucks to week to a full time income and more.

Today’s economy is hurting a lot of people, many of them are friends and family. I hope to help some of those that are hurting to heal, just like they did in the burn unit for me 3 years ago.

Today, right now, is where it’s at.

Best Regards,
